Waspaloy Plates | AMS 5544 Age-Hardened Superalloy Plate
Waspaloy plates (UNS N07001, W.Nr. 2.4654) are supplied to AMS 5544, the specification Haynes International lists for Waspaloy sheet, plate and strip. Aurico Alloys LLP supplies them from Mumbai as cut blanks and rings for turbine spacers, seal carriers and machined hot-section hardware that has to hold load near 870 °C.

Why Waspaloy Plate is Specified
Waspaloy is an age-hardenable nickel-chromium-cobalt superalloy – chromium 18.0–21.0%, cobalt 12.0–15.0%, molybdenum 3.5–5.0%, with titanium 2.75–3.25% and aluminium 1.20–1.60% forming the gamma-prime that carries its strength. It holds strength and creep resistance to roughly 870 °C (1,600 °F), which is the reason it has been a gas turbine disc and shaft material for decades.
Plate is the form specified when the part is going to be machined out rather than formed: spacers, seal carriers, rings, mounting flanges and test coupons cut from a blank. That changes what matters on the order. On sheet the question is gauge and formability; on plate it is the thickness the finished part is buried in, because the heat-treatment response of a precipitation-hardened alloy is bound up with section size and with how the blank is cut before it is aged.
That is worth deciding early, because it also decides the form. A ring or a disc taken from plate carries the rolling direction of the plate; the same component taken from forged bar or a rolled ring carries a grain flow that follows its shape. Where the drawing calls out grain flow or a forged condition, the material to quote is the billet, rod and bar route – AMS 5704, 5706, 5707 and ASTM B637 – not a thicker plate. Where the part is a flat machined component, plate to AMS 5544 is the direct answer and the cheaper one.
Aurico Alloys LLP supplies Waspaloy plate cut to blank size with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate and heat traceability. Waspaloy is sourced against the order rather than carried, so we quote against the rolling programme in force when you enquire – on an aerospace-programme alloy that is the honest answer, and it is why the enquiry should carry the thickness and the blank size rather than a stock-list part number. Thinner gauges for formed and welded parts are on the Waspaloy sheets page, under the same specification.

Availability and Lead Time
Waspaloy plate is rolled against programmes rather than carried, so an enquiry is answered with what the mill can roll, what it can be cut from and the lead time that carries. Send the thickness, the blank or ring size, the condition and the quantity. Small machining blanks and one-off test pieces are quoted on the same terms as production batches, and the certificate travels with the material either way.

Condition, Section Size and Properties
An age-hardenable alloy has the properties of the condition it is in, so Waspaloy plate has no single set of room-temperature figures. Solution-treated plate machines and cuts more easily; the same plate after the aging cycle carries the strength and creep resistance the alloy is specified for. On plate this matters more than it does on sheet, because a thick section and a thin one do not see an identical thermal cycle, and a blank aged before machining is not in the same state as one machined and aged after.
The acceptance limits that bind your material are those in AMS 5544 for the condition ordered, and the values for your heat are on the EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate supplied with the plate. Tell us the thickness, the condition and the property the design is checked against, and we will confirm it against the certificate before the material ships.
Applications & Benefits
- Turbine hardware machined from blank: spacers, seal carriers, mounting flanges and stiffening rings working under sustained load near 870 °C.
- Aerospace and aviation: engine components cut from plate where a forged grain flow is not called out on the drawing.
- Power generation: industrial turbine parts exposed to thermal cycling and creep rather than to wet corrosion.
- Tooling, fixturing and test coupons: hot fixtures, dies and qualification pieces that have to keep their dimensions at temperature.

Conclusion
On Waspaloy plate the two decisions that matter come before the price: the condition the plate is delivered in, and whether the part should be cut from plate at all or forged. Aurico Alloys LLP supplies plate to AMS 5544 with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate and heat traceability, cut to blank size. Send the thickness, blank size and condition, and see the Waspaloy grade page for the full set of forms.
