Hastelloy C22

Hastelloy® C-22 (UNS N06022, W.Nr. 2.4602) carries more chromium and less molybdenum than C-276 — 20-22.5% against 14.5-16.5%, and 12.5-14.5% against 15-17%. That shifts it towards oxidising service: ferric and cupric chlorides, nitric acid and mixed acids, where C-276 is the stronger choice in reducing conditions.

Key Properties
- Chromium 20.0-22.5%, the highest of the C-series alloys apart from C-2000.
- Molybdenum 12.5-14.5% with tungsten 2.5-3.5%, retaining useful reducing-acid resistance.
- Carbon 0.015% maximum, so it resists sensitisation in the weld heat-affected zone.
- Outstanding resistance to pitting and crevice attack in oxidising chlorides.
