Tube and pipe is the form Alleima makes itself — the company owns the SANICRO trademark and developed the grade — and it is delivered in the solution annealed condition. Plate and sheet in the same alloy are rolled by Outokumpu under licence.
The alloy exists to close a gap. Below it, the 6% molybdenum super-austenitics are marginal in hot seawater; above it, a nickel alloy costs more than the duty needs. Sanicro 35 carries 27% chromium, 35% nickel, 6.5% molybdenum and 0.3% nitrogen, which puts its pitting resistance in 6-moly territory while the nickel content handles the chloride stress-corrosion cracking that ends the life of leaner grades.

Chemical Composition
Nominally 27% chromium, 35% nickel and 6.5% molybdenum with 0.3% nitrogen and a small copper addition. Set against Alleima's older Sanicro 28, the molybdenum is nearly doubled and the nitrogen raised threefold, which is where the extra chloride performance comes from.

Mechanical and Physical Properties
In the solution annealed condition at 20°C, Alleima publishes minima of 425 MPa proof strength (Rp0.2) and 750 MPa tensile strength for tube to ASTM B163, with 35% elongation. Pipe to ASTM B677 is 400 MPa proof strength against the same 750 MPa tensile and 35% elongation. That is high strength for an austenitic material, and it is what allows thinner walls at a given pressure.
Weldability is good with nickel-alloy consumables. Alleima recommends TIG welding (GTAW) at a maximum heat input of 1.0 kJ/mm and a maximum interpass temperature of 100°C, using a stringer technique; preheating and post-weld heat treatment are normally not necessary.
Industry Applications
Why this grade
Alleima developed Sanicro 35 for service where seawater is used for cooling or heating, and it has good resistance to hydrochloric acid compared with stainless steels of lower chromium and molybdenum content. In hydrochloric acid it holds its isocorrosion line further out than Sanicro 28, 904L or 316 — the practical difference being service in acid concentrations and temperatures where those three are already through-wall.

Every consignment ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate stating heat number, chemical analysis and mechanical properties. Depending on the specification we can add positive material identification, ultrasonic and eddy-current testing, hydrostatic testing, intergranular corrosion testing to ASTM G28 or A262, and third-party inspection release from Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, SGS or TUV.
