Monel K-500
Monel K-500 (UNS N05500, W.Nr. 2.4375) is Monel 400's nickel–copper base with aluminium and titanium added — 2.30 to 3.15% Al and 0.35 to 0.85% Ti. Age-hardening precipitates those as gamma prime, which lifts strength well above Monel 400 while the corrosion resistance of the nickel–copper matrix is kept. It stays non-magnetic and holds its properties down to sub-zero temperatures.
Key Properties
- Age-hardenable. Aluminium 2.30-3.15% and titanium 0.35-0.85% are the additions Monel 400 does not have; the strength comes from precipitating them, not from cold work.
- Monel 400's corrosion behaviour on the same nickel–copper base — nickel 63% minimum, copper 27-33% — so seawater and caustic service carries across.
- Density 8.44 g/cm3, not 8.80. Monel 400 is the heavier of the two; the aluminium is what makes the difference, and it matters when a drawing is costed by weight.
- ASTM B865 covers rod and bar. Wire and flat product are supplied to QQ-N-286.
