The use Special Metals records for 693 wire is specific: refractory anchor supports in an ammonia plant. Anchors hold a refractory lining to the shell of a reformer or a transfer line, and they sit behind the lining in exactly the hot, carbon-rich gas that causes metal dusting. An anchor that dusts away lets the lining fall, which is why the wire is bought in the same alloy as the rest of the metal-dusting defence.

Mechanical and Physical Properties
Wire properties follow the temper ordered, and the certificate states the tensile result for the temper supplied. In service the value of 693 wire is its resistance to metal dusting and carburisation, not its room-temperature strength.
Industry Applications
Why Inconel 693 wire
Small parts fail first in metal-dusting gas, because a wire has almost no section to lose before it breaks. Refractory anchors, ties and supports in syngas plant are where that shows up, and a lining is only as secure as the anchors behind it. 693 wire gives those parts the same resistance as 693 tube and sheet. For welding 693, order the wire as filler metal, which is certified as a welding consumable rather than to ASTM B166.

Testing and Certification
Every coil or spool is traceable to its heat on an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate stating chemical analysis and the tensile result for the temper supplied.
