Haynes® 556
Aurico Alloys LLP supplies Haynes® 556 (UNS R30556, W.Nr. 1.4883) as sheet, plate and round bar from Mumbai, India, with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates. It is an iron-nickel-chromium-cobalt alloy for high-temperature service in sulphidising, carburising and chlorine-bearing atmospheres, where a conventional stainless or nickel alloy would be attacked.
Key Properties
- Iron base, not nickel. Chromium 22%, nickel 20% and cobalt 18% nominal on an iron balance — the 22-20-18 in its EN designation, X10CrNiCoMoN22-20-18.
- Molybdenum 3% and tungsten 2.5% nominal, with tantalum 0.6% and nitrogen 0.2% nominal.
- Corrosion and heat resistance in one grade. It resists sulphidising, carburising and chlorine-bearing atmospheres while keeping its strength and oxidation resistance at temperature, ground that would otherwise need two different grades.
- The other iron-based Haynes grade is HR-120, which carries more nickel, 37% nominal, and caps cobalt at 3%.
Applications
- Waste incineration grates and components
- Chemical process equipment and fixtures in sulphidising, carburising or chlorine-bearing atmospheres
- Furnace and process fixtures that need corrosion and oxidation resistance from a single grade
