Tool Steel Powder for Additive Manufacturing
Aurico Alloys LLP supplies 2 tool steel powder grades for additive manufacturing: H13 (T20813) and Maraging 18Ni300 (1.2709 / X3NiCoMoTi 18-9-5).
Hot-work and maraging tool steel powders, printed almost entirely for tooling - conformal-cooled mould inserts, die-casting dies and repair cladding.
Every grade and cut on this page is supplied: held in stock, or arranged with the manufacturer where a cut is not on the shelf. Tell us the alloy, the size fraction and the quantity and we will confirm availability and lead time.
Tool Steel Powder Grades
| Grade | UNS | Specification | Size fractions | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H13 | T20813 | ASTM A681 for the wrought equivalent | 5-25 µm · 15-45 µm · 15-53 µm · 45-105 µm · 53-105 µm · 45-150 µm · 53-150 µm | Die-casting dies |
| Maraging 18Ni300 | 1.2709 / X3NiCoMoTi 18-9-5 | Supplied to producer specification; wrought equivalent per DIN 1.2709 | 5-25 µm · 15-45 µm · 15-53 µm · 45-105 µm · 53-105 µm · 45-150 µm · 53-150 µm | Injection mould inserts with conformal cooling |
H13 Tool Steel Powder
Holds hardness at temperature and resists thermal fatigue, so it survives the heat-and-quench cycling that destroys ordinary tool steel in die casting.
Applications: Die-casting dies, hot forging tooling, extrusion dies, and repair cladding of worn tool surfaces.
Maraging Steel Powder (18Ni300)
Prints soft and ages to over 1900 MPa in a single low-temperature step, with almost no distortion. That combination is why injection mould tooling is printed in it.
Applications: Injection mould inserts with conformal cooling, die-casting tooling, and high-strength aerospace hardware.
Should I use H13 or maraging steel powder?
Use H13 where the tool runs hot and cycles, as in die casting, hot forging and extrusion, because it holds hardness at temperature and resists thermal fatigue. Use maraging 18Ni300 for injection mould inserts, where you want extreme hardness, easy machining before ageing and almost no distortion during it. H13 for heat, maraging for hardness and dimensional stability.
