Haynes® 242
Haynes® 242 is an age-hardenable nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy combining high-temperature strength with low thermal expansion and resistance to fluorine-bearing environments. Seal rings, ducting and fasteners are the typical applications.
Key Properties
- Molybdenum 25% nominal with chromium only 8% nominal — the inverse of the usual nickel-chromium balance, and the source of its low expansion.
- Age-hardenable, reaching strength without cold work.
- Resistant to fluorine-bearing environments, where the high-chromium alloys are attacked.
- ASTM B434 for plate and sheet; B573 for bar.
Applications
- Seal rings and ducting in gas turbines
- Fasteners requiring dimensional stability
- Containment hardware in fluorine service
- Rocket engine components
