Haynes® 188
Haynes® 188 is a cobalt-nickel-chromium-tungsten alloy that holds its oxidation and sulfidation resistance beyond Inconel® 617, which is why it is specified for flame holders, nozzle vanes and combustion hardware in gas turbines.
Key Properties
- Lanthanum 0.02-0.12% is the addition that distinguishes it — a rare-earth that makes the oxide scale adhere through thermal cycling.
- Cobalt base with chromium 20-24%, nickel 20-24% and tungsten 13-16%.
- Carbon 0.05-0.15%, specified as a range.
- AMS 5608 for sheet and plate; AMS 5772 for bar.
Applications
- Gas turbine combustors and transition ducts
- Flame holders and nozzle vanes
- Afterburner components
- Hot-section sheet fabrications
